I am the 4th generation of ranchers in my family. I come from a ranching and rice farming family. My grandfather and namesake "Babe Scott" was one of several local ranchers here in Brazoria County on the Texas Gulf Coast to start the famous Salt Grass Cattle Company in 1961. There has since been a Novel written based on the Salt Grass Cattle Company and the men who ran it.
My father Pruitt Scott continued ranching and farming on the salt grass country until the late 1980's. In the early 1990's he transitioned to the prairie grass of Danbury, TX. In the late 1990's my father and I started a small club calf operation that we transitioned into our commercial cow/calf operation raising American breed steers and heifers to supply the show calf needs of my now 4-H aged children. This is when Scott Cattle Services was established. Scott Cattle Services became known for our championship commercial heifers at our local county fair and others along the gulf coast.
In 2004 my oldest son wanted to start showing brahmans so we bought a brahman heifer from V8 Ranch in Boling, Texas. We had a small brahman herd but we were using those cows on Hereford and Simmental bulls to raise our commercial females. From 2004 through 2015 we were purchasing brahman genetics from V8 Ranch, Heritage Cattle Company and JD Hudgins, Inc. We were slowly building a superior grey brahman herd that has since gone on to win championships at every level from County, State, National and even International shows in both the open and junior show circuits. These brahman genetics are the genetics we have used to build us a noteworthy herd of F1 Brafords that have also won championships at every level. Those F1 cattle are the very cows we use today to raise our Gulf Coast Beef sired by Angus and Hereford bulls.
In 2019 we decided to keep 5 of our F1 Braford steers back to see if we could sell them for beef. We fed these steers out that year for some of my friends from work. And as you can say the rest is history!!! From that day on word has spread all across the county and up and down the gulf coast of Texas. We have been selling beef throughout the Texas coast into Louisiana, and North of Houston, spreading all by word of mouth from our existing customers.
Since we have been selling our beef we have been selling it under the Scott Cattle Services name. But new for 2024 we are changing the beef company to Scott's Gulf Coast Beef with a new logo to go with it. Same ownership, same great customer service and same great beef. We take pride in being one of the first farm to table beef providers in Brazoria County. When buying from Scott's Gulf Coast Beef just know you are buying from one of the first farm to table beef suppliers in Brazoria County and the company that is leading the way for the farm to table craze on the gulf coast.
